In the project ($2,000 for a big white dick for short), I am responding to the 'phenomenon' (if you can call it that) of posters, magazines and calendars full of nudes that can be found in some businesses, stuck on various lockers, in men's locker rooms, etc. I am addressing the issue from the perspective of the opposite sex, and in my painting project I am not thematizing female nudity, but male nudity. My sources for my work are photographs of naked men taken by male photographers and predominantly from men's magazines. It is therefore not visual material primarily intended for women, and after a few experiences with presenting this content, I believe it is even obscure for a female audience. In the project I am considering ways to bring this content to a level where it could regain its appeal to women. I'm trying to do this through painting, which can be far less explicit than photography, and also allows for editing of the subject matter. At the same time, through the installation solution, I am trying to achieve the presentation of this mostly private content, (i.e. not always ostentatiously presented publicly), in an unusual way. In the creation of the curtain, I primarily worked with the common use of this object, as something used for example to cover the windows of a dwelling (from the eyes of passers-by), something that is meant to give us an intimate moment, but at the same time an object that we long to look behind. The paintings that appear on these curtains go against this principle and are revealing. We can also think of the curtain as an object associated with stereotypically "women's work", i.e. housework. It is an object that needs to be washed and dried once in a while, an object that decorates the home. Therefore, it makes sense to me that the curtain is that bearer of male nudity, just as the lockers in men's closets can be a place of presentation of female nudity.
