RETURN TO SIMPLICITY

The title “Return to Simplicity” denote a series of monochromatic paintings, various segments of bodies of horses, which arose in between the years 2019 and 2020. Paintings were not created as an answer on comprehensive and in advance invented concept, but as a gradual process in terms of different variations of the topic, which resulted into the form of monochromatic paintings. The ideological roots of the images originates in the paintings of previous set named “Revelation of Horse” (originally titled “Horse Brings Hope”). From previous series of paintings remained the need to depict horse, but also grow a compulsion to delimit itself from previous depiction of the animal, which was squeezed into the large format images. This compulsion leaded me to many experiments, in the terms of work with formal side and content of the images. Unfortunately, resulting artworks together made an impression of contradiction and heterogeneity. Opposite to the paintings from the series “Revelation of Horse”, which arose from my imagination, my short-term visions, paintings from the series “Return to Simplicity” resulted from studies of real model. The drawings from studies were transfered on formats of various dimensions, which were chose to be matching with particular segment. Images were subsequently supplemented with a layer of oil painting, which should originally serve as underpainting. It later showed that the underpainting is sufficient in its simplicity. In contrary with previous series of paintings the intention was not to incarnate a dream horse but to capture a physical beauty of real animal in its individual thing.
